LOH OutfittersSouthern New Mexico
A rare draw for Persian ibex in the steep desert cliffs of New Mexico's Florida Mountains.

Ibex in New Mexico live in one place: the Florida Mountains hunt area of Unit 25, bounded by Interstate 10 to the north, the Mexico border to the south, Highway 11 to the west and the Dona Ana and Luna County line to the east. There is no second population and no alternative unit.
The Floridas are steep, rocky, dry desert mountains, and ibex live in the worst of it, on cliff faces and in broken rock. Expect long days of glassing, hard climbing and shots from awkward positions. Every ibex hunt is a draw hunt, and New Mexico's draw is purely random, so a first-time applicant has the same odds as anyone else.

For 2026-2027: archery October 1-15 (20 licenses), the once-in-a-lifetime any legal sporting arm hunt November 15-29 (5 licenses), archery January 15-29, 2027 (20 licenses), and a once-in-a-youth hunt December 27 to January 10, 2027 (1 license). All are either sex. Confirm current seasons with the New Mexico Department of Wildlife.
New Mexico has no preference or bonus points, so your odds are the same every year. The rifle hunt issues only five licenses, so treat it as a long shot. The archery hunts carry four times as many licenses and are the more realistic path.
Very. You will glass rock faces for hours, climb difficult ground to get into position and often shoot from uncomfortable angles. Preparation like you would for a sheep hunt pays off.
