New Mexico Coues Deer

Located in New Mexico’s furthest western reaches lives one of North America’s most challenging sub-species of deer to hunt, the coues deer. Also known as “cola blanca” and the “grey ghost,” this sub-species of white-tailed deer gets its nickname from its small, grey body, its large white tail, and its elusive nature. Coues deer are equally as exciting as they are difficult to hunt. Good glass, persistence, and patience are the ingredients to success when hunting these sneaky bucks. Shots usually range from 200-500 yards, and you can expect to hike anywhere from 1-8 miles per day in pursuit of these iconic desert dwelling whitetails.
